Winter Wonderland

Zelenci are gorgeous in all seasons. Of course, we are talking about an unforgettable green experience, even in the middle of winter, when they are covered with a gentle whiteness of the snow, but the lake’s unique color comes to the fore even more.

Location of Zelenci and the start

Zelenci is located just behind the village of Podkoren, on the south side of the main road that connects Rateče with Kranjska Gora. Of course, you can go there on foot, by bike or by car. This time we drove by car, but I also visited them on foot and by bike. In this case, there is a beautiful cycling and walking path that leads from Mojstrana to the border with Italy and beyond. Somewhere in the middle between Podkoren and Rateče, the approach to Zelenci branches off.

So, we started in front of Jacobs Resort and drove towards Rateče. There are quite a few parking spaces on this road’s left side. You need to find a suitable one not to obstruct traffic. The path to Zelenci then leads through the forest. It is a nature reserve where many plant and animal species have found peace under the sun.

Emerald green lake

In the extreme western part of the swamp is that most famous emerald green lake. You can walk along a unique wooden footbridge without harming nature and then climb to the lookout tower. The colors and views are beautiful. Ponce (mountain) will also be shown to you in the distance.
